The Basic Extension Cage Kit includes three main items:
Full Camera Cage: A formfitting aluminum alloy frame that wraps around the camera body, protecting it from accidental damage without obstructing access to ports, controls, or the battery door. It features a three-point locking system (one screw on the bottom, two locating blocks on the sides) for secure, anti-twist mounting.
Top Handle: An ergonomic handle, often with silicone padding, that attaches to the top of the cage. This provides a comfortable grip for low-angle shots and improves camera stability for handheld work.
HDMI & USB-C Cable Clamp: A thumbscrew-tightened clamp that secures video and data cables, preventing accidental disconnections or port damage during filming.
Key Features and Expansion
Versatile Mounting: The cage is covered in numerous industry-standard mounting points, including 1/4″-20 threaded holes, ARRI 3/8″-16 locating holes, cold shoe mounts, QD (Quick Detach) interfaces, and strap slots.
Quick Release Ecosystem: The base of the cage features an integrated Arca-Swiss quick release plate, allowing for rapid transition between handheld shooting, tripods, and gimbals compatible with the DJI RS series (RS 2, RSC 2, RS 3 Pro, etc.).
Compatibility: The kit is tailor-made for the Canon EOS R6 Mark III, R6 Mark II, and R5 Mark II.
Important Compatibility Note: When using this kit with the Canon EOS R6 Mark II camera, the included cable clamp is incompatible. A separate SmallRig cable clamp (model 2981B) must be purchased for proper HDMI/USB cable protection with that specific camera model.
