The IRIX 11mm f/4 Firefly is an ultra-wide-angle manual-focus prime lens designed for Canon EF-mount cameras, offering a budget-friendly entry point into IRIX’s 11mm ultra-wide lineup alongside the pricier IRIX 11mm f/4 Blackstone version. It’s aimed at landscape, architecture, interior, and astrophotography photographers who need dramatic ultra-wide coverage and full-frame compatibility without the higher cost of the Blackstone edition.

Optically, the lens offers an 11mm focal length with a maximum aperture of f/4, delivering an extremely wide field of view on full-frame Canon bodies well suited to expansive landscapes, tight interior spaces, architectural photography, and night sky imaging where capturing as much of the scene as possible matters. The lens’s multi-element optical design is aimed at controlling distortion and aberrations common in ultra-wide lenses, while maintaining sharpness across the frame, including toward the corners.

As a fully manual-focus lens, focus is controlled entirely by hand via the lens’s focus ring, with no autofocus motor or electronic communication for focus operation, consistent with IRIX’s design philosophy across its lens lineup that prioritizes precise manual control for the deliberate, considered shooting typical of landscape and astro photography. The lens includes IRIX’s signature focus lock feature, allowing photographers to lock focus at infinity or any other chosen distance to prevent accidental focus shift during handling or transport, particularly useful for astrophotography where maintaining critical infinity focus is essential. A clicked aperture ring provides tactile, repeatable aperture selection directly on the lens barrel.

Build quality for the Firefly edition uses a polymer composite barrel construction, a lighter and more affordable alternative to the Blackstone version’s magnesium and aluminum housing, while still retaining weather-sealing at critical points to help protect against dust and moisture during outdoor shooting. The lens accepts a rear gel filter holder given its ultra-wide bulbous front element design, rather than a standard front filter thread.

As a full-frame-compatible lens, the IRIX 11mm f/4 Firefly delivers its full ultra-wide angle of view on full-frame Canon EF-mount bodies while producing a narrower, though still wide, effective field of view on APS-C Canon bodies.

Ellie ★★★★★

I've been using this ultra-wide for landscape shots, and the manual focus ring has just the right amount of resistance for precise adjustments. It's surprisingly compact for an 11mm lens, making it easy to carry on hikes.

Grace L. ★★★★★

The Firefly’s build feels surprisingly solid for the price, and the manual focus ring is smooth enough that I don’t miss autofocus at all. Sharpness across the frame held up even at f/4, which made my city shots look properly crisp.

Natalie O. ★★★★★

I needed an ultra-wide for landscape shots, and the manual focus ring on this is buttery smooth with a satisfying click-stop at infinity. It’s sharp across the frame even wide open at f/4, which made my mountain panoramas look incredibly detailed.
