Covering a focal range from 75mm to 200mm with a variable maximum aperture that opens to f/2.8 at the wide end, it addresses a practical telephoto zoom range well suited to portraiture, wildlife, sports, and general longer-reach photography. The fast maximum aperture at the wide end provides a meaningful light gathering advantage over slower telephoto zoom alternatives, and the variable aperture steps to f/3.5 at full extension. Fully manual operation covers both focus and aperture adjustment directly on the lens.
