Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens
Elite Super-Telephoto Workhorse – Well-Used Condition with Inconsistent AF Squeak
The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8G ED VR II is a legendary, professional-grade super-telephoto prime lens revered by sports, wildlife, and photojournalism professionals worldwide. Pairing an incredibly bright, constant f/2.8 maximum aperture with advanced optical engineering, this lens excels in demanding low-light environments and delivers dramatic subject isolation with a razor-thin depth of field.

Its sophisticated optical design features three Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) elements alongside Nano Crystal Coatings to eliminate ghosting and flare. Backed by a robust, weather-sealed chassis and VR II vibration reduction, this elite prime is engineered for high-performance capture.

Please note: This lens is in well-used cosmetic condition. It is fully functional and takes excellent images, but it features internal dust specks and its autofocus motor emits an inconsistent squeaking sound.

Key Features & Optical Mastery
Bright f/2.8 Maximum Aperture: The wide f/2.8 opening provides maximum light-gathering capabilities for indoor arenas or deep twilight wildlife tracking, enabling fast shutter speeds and creamy background separation.

Three Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) Elements: Incorporates premium ED glass to drastically reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing, ensuring exceptional edge-to-edge resolution and color accuracy.

Nano Crystal & Super Integrated Coatings: Advanced multi-layer element coatings suppress internal reflections, surface flare, and ghosting, maintaining rich frame contrast when shooting into harsh, direct backlighting.

VR II Image Stabilization: Nikon’s Vibration Reduction (VR II) system mechanically compensates for up to three stops of camera shake, providing critical stability when tracking fast action handheld or on a monopod.

Pro Hardware Integration: Outfitted with a heavy-duty, removable and rotating tripod/monopod collar for smooth compositional switching, along with a rounded nine-blade aperture diaphragm for beautiful, circular out-of-focus bokeh highlights.

Item Condition & Diagnostic Notes
Autofocus Motor Performance: Fully functional but exhibits a common auditory quirk. The Silent Wave Motor (SWM) tracks, locks, and drive focus accurately, but the autofocus motor inconsistently squeaks or makes a high-pitched rubbing sound when shifting focus elements. It does not alter focus speed or precision, but the sound may be a distraction in dead-silent environments. Full-time manual focus override functions perfectly.

Optical State (Internal Dust): There are visible dust particles speckled throughout the internal lens elements. This is typical for a heavily traveled, professional telephoto zoom and does not affect final images, contrast, or resolution in standard bench tests. The optics are free of any performance-ruining haze or fungus.

Cosmetic & Mechanical Wear: This unit is in well-used cosmetic condition. The outer lens barrel shows prominent paint wear, surface scuffs, and finish scratches from extensive professional field use. The mechanical switches and rotating collar click and lock down firmly.

Included Accessories: Comes equipped with the original large Nikon lens hood, the specialized front soft lens cover (leatherette condom style), and a compatible rear lens cap.

Emma ★★★★★

I’ve been using this lens for wildlife shoots, and the vibration reduction really helps steady those long shots in low light. The fast f/2.8 aperture lets in plenty of light for crisp images even at dusk. It’s heavy but built like a tank—definitely a solid investment for serious work.

Eli E. ★★★★★

Shot a full game from the stands at dusk and the VR II kept the viewfinder rock-steady even at 1/60th, the f/2.8 letting me freeze motion without a flash. The only thing I noticed is the focus ring has a faint squeak on initial turn, but it never missed a lock and the images are tack-sharp wide open

Jacob N. ★★★★★

The autofocus squeaks a bit, but that hasn’t stopped it from locking onto birds across a marshy field with razor-sharp precision. The VR II is a beast to carry but the image quality from that f/2.8 glass makes every sore shoulder worth it.
