Rokinon 24mm f/1.8 AF Compact Lens for Sony E

The Rokinon 24mm f/1.8 AF Compact is a lightweight wide-angle prime lens built for Sony E-mount full-frame and APS-C mirrorless cameras, combining a fast f/1.8 maximum aperture with a genuinely compact, travel-friendly form factor that makes it well-suited for landscape, street, astro, and everyday wide-angle photography. Its small size and light weight have made it a popular choice for photographers who want fast wide-angle glass without adding significant bulk to their kit.

The 24mm focal length provides a versatile wide-angle field of view ideal for capturing expansive landscapes, architecture, environmental portraits, and interior spaces, while the f/1.8 maximum aperture allows for strong low-light performance and creative background separation that’s less common in compact wide-angle primes. This aperture also makes the lens a capable option for astrophotography and night sky work, where fast glass and wide framing are especially valuable.

Autofocus is handled by a built-in stepping motor, delivering smooth and reasonably quiet focusing performance suited to both stills and casual video use. The lens’s optical design incorporates aspherical and extra-low dispersion elements aimed at controlling distortion, chromatic aberration, and coma, helping to maintain sharp, clean images from corner to corner, an important consideration for a wide-angle lens frequently used in landscape and night photography.

Its minimalist, lightweight construction keeps the lens easy to carry on long shooting days or while traveling, and its compact profile pairs naturally with Sony’s smaller full-frame and APS-C bodies without throwing off the balance of the camera. As part of Rokinon’s autofocus lens lineup, it offers full electronic communication with Sony E-mount cameras, including autofocus, aperture control, and EXIF data recording, giving photographers a more modern, camera-integrated shooting experience compared to Rokinon’s traditional manual-focus lenses.
