The Rokinon 35mm T1.5 Cine DS Lens for Sony E-Mount is a wide-angle cine prime lens designed for Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras and camcorders, built specifically for professional video and cinema production. Part of Rokinon’s DS series of cinema lenses, it’s aimed at filmmakers who want a versatile wide-angle focal length with cine-style handling and consistent color rendition across a matched set of lenses.

Optically, the lens covers full-frame sensors, producing a 63.1-degree wide angle-of-view on a full-frame sensor camera or 35mm SLR, with an approximately 56mm equivalent focal length on APS-C-sized sensors. The optical construction incorporates 13 elements in 12 groups, including hybrid aspherical elements, to reduce chromatic aberrations and distortion for sharp, clear imagery. A UMC (Ultra Multi-Coating) is applied to minimize lens flare and ghosting, and the lens features a fast T1.5 maximum aperture, a T-stop rating reflecting actual measured light transmission rather than a theoretical calculation, valued by cinematographers for consistent, predictable exposure across a matched lens set.

As a cine lens, the focus and aperture control rings feature industry-standard gearing that shares a common position with other Rokinon Cine DS lenses, providing an interface for working with a traditional follow focus. The aperture ring has been de-clicked for smooth, silent iris pulls during recording, and aperture and focus scales are marked on both sides of the lens barrel to aid focus pullers working from either side of the camera. The lens has a minimum focus distance of just under 12 inches from the lens, and a removable petal-shaped lens hood provides flare protection when shooting without a matte box.

As part of the DS series, this lens shares consistent gear positioning with other DS lenses, allowing filmmakers to swap lenses without needing to re-adjust follow focus and other rig accessories, and each DS lens is color-matched to a standard, eliminating the need to acquire an entire lens set at the same time. The lens accepts a 77mm threaded filter ring. As a fully manual lens, it provides no electronic communication with the camera.

Jacob ★★★★★

The T1.5 aperture is incredibly smooth to pull focus with, and the de-clicked aperture ring is a lifesaver for silent video work. Sharpness wide open is impressive, and it handles low-light interiors beautifully.

Miles X. ★★★★★

The de-clicked aperture ring is incredibly smooth for pulling focus in run-and-gun setups, and the wide T1.5 really lets in light for low-light scenes. I've been using it for narrative shorts and the image quality is crisp without being overly clinical.

Kevin ★★★★★

The de-clicked aperture ring is a game-changer for pulling smooth iris adjustments during a scene, and the focus throw feels perfectly dampened for follow focus work. Mounted it on my Sony a7S III for a short film, and the sharpness wide open at T1.5 surprised me. This lens has become my go-to for n
