Sony a6400 Mirrorless Camera

The Sony a6400 is an APS-C mirrorless camera positioned within Sony’s a6000-series lineup, offering strong autofocus performance and solid all-around capability in a compact body aimed at enthusiast photographers and content creators. It balances stills and video functionality, making it a popular choice for travel, everyday, and vlogging-style shooting.

At the core of the a6400 is a 24.2MP APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor paired with Sony’s BIONZ X processor, delivering solid image quality and reasonably strong low-light performance for its class. Autofocus is a standout feature of the a6400, using Sony’s Fast Hybrid AF system combining phase-detection and contrast-detection points across a wide portion of the frame, along with real-time Eye AF for both humans and animals and real-time tracking, providing reliable subject acquisition that was considered class-leading at the time of its release. Continuous shooting reaches up to 11fps with full AF/AE tracking, giving the camera solid speed for casual sports, wildlife, and everyday action photography.

Video capability includes 4K recording at up to 30p with full pixel readout and no pixel binning, along with Full HD recording at up to 120fps for slow-motion capture. Handling centers on a tiltable touchscreen LCD that flips up 180 degrees, positioning it for selfie-style framing and vlogging use, along with a compact electronic viewfinder for traditional composing in bright conditions.

Build quality includes a compact, lightweight magnesium alloy chassis, though the a6400 lacks in-body image stabilization, relying instead on lens-based stabilization in compatible E-mount lenses for shake correction. The camera includes a single SD card slot (UHS-I compatible) and a multi-interface shoe for accessory microphones and lighting.

The a6400 uses Sony’s E-mount lens system, giving it access to Sony’s full range of native APS-C and full-frame E-mount lenses, along with third-party E-mount options. Connectivity includes built-in Wi-Fi, NFC, and Bluetooth for wireless image transfer and remote control via Sony’s companion app, along with a microphone jack for improved audio control during video capture.
