Sony a7CR Mirrorless Camera (Silver)

The Sony a7CR is a high-resolution full-frame mirrorless camera built around the compact, rangefinder-style body of the a7C line, pairing the resolution capability of Sony’s a7R series with the portability of Sony’s smallest full-frame system. It’s aimed at landscape, studio, and travel photographers who want maximum resolution and detail without the larger footprint of Sony’s traditional a7R-series bodies.

At its core is a 61MP full-frame back-illuminated CMOS sensor, the same high-resolution sensor found in Sony’s a7R V, paired with Sony’s BIONZ XR processor for fast processing despite the sensor’s substantial pixel count. The camera includes 5-axis in-body image stabilization (IBIS), helping counteract camera shake and enabling sharper handheld shots at slower shutter speeds, a particularly important feature given the reduced tolerance for shake at such high resolution and the compact body’s smaller grip compared to larger full-frame cameras.

Autofocus is handled by Sony’s AI-based subject recognition processing unit, improving detection and tracking of humans, animals, and birds, along with real-time Eye AF and real-time tracking for reliable subject acquisition across a range of scenarios. Continuous shooting reaches up to 8fps, a reasonable rate for a resolution-focused body though more modest than Sony’s speed-oriented full-frame cameras. Video capability includes 4K recording up to 60p with a Super 35mm crop, along with 4K up to 30p using the full sensor width for wider-angle footage.

Handling centers on the a7CR’s distinctive side-mounted electronic viewfinder, a departure from the traditional center-mounted EVF found on most full-frame mirrorless bodies, along with a fully articulating touchscreen LCD that flips forward for vlogging and self-recording use. The compact magnesium alloy chassis is designed to be weather-resistant, and the camera includes a single SD card slot (UHS-II compatible).

The a7CR uses Sony’s E-mount lens system, giving it access to Sony’s full range of native full-frame and APS-C E-mount lenses, along with third-party E-mount options. Connectivity includes built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for wireless image transfer and remote control via Sony’s companion app, along with a headphone jack and microphone input for video-focused workflows.
