Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 GM Lens

The Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 GM is a premium wide-angle prime lens designed for Sony’s full-frame E-mount mirrorless cameras, part of Sony’s flagship G Master series built to deliver the highest tier of optical performance in Sony’s lens lineup. It’s aimed at landscape, astrophotography, environmental portrait, and street photographers who want a fast wide-angle prime with exceptional sharpness, background rendering, and build quality.

Optically, the lens offers a 24mm focal length with a maximum aperture of f/1.4, delivering a natural wide-angle field of view along with strong low-light performance and meaningful background separation, an uncommon combination for a wide-angle lens in this class. The optical formula incorporates XA (extreme aspherical) elements to control aberrations and maintain sharpness even near wide open, along with Sony’s Nano AR Coating II to reduce flare and ghosting in backlit and high-contrast shooting conditions, both hallmarks of the G Master line’s design philosophy. An 11-blade circular aperture diaphragm contributes to exceptionally smooth, rounded background blur.

Autofocus is handled by dual XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors, delivering fast, precise, and quiet focusing performance well suited to both stills and video work, including smooth, minimal-breathing focus transitions during movie recording. The lens includes a customizable focus hold button, a manual aperture ring with a click/declick switch for silent aperture adjustment during video, and a dedicated AF/MF switch, giving photographers direct, tactile control options on the lens barrel itself.

Build quality includes dust and moisture-resistant construction to help protect against the elements during outdoor and professional shooting, along with a fluorine coating on the front element to resist smudges, fingerprints, and moisture for easier cleaning. The lens maintains a relatively compact, well-balanced form factor for a fast full-frame G Master wide-angle prime, keeping it manageable for extended handheld use, including astrophotography work where a stable, lightweight setup is often preferred.

As a full-frame E-mount lens, the FE 24mm f/1.4 GM delivers its full angle of view on Sony full-frame bodies while remaining compatible with Sony APS-C E-mount cameras at a narrower, telephoto-equivalent effective field of view.
